Since the keys are patent protected, no company has access to imitation key blanks which will fit into the patented product line. High security manufacturers have instituted a Key Control Procedure which all Authorized Service Centers must abide by. Over 90% of all keys in the marketplace are not patent protected. If a key is not patent protected other companies can manufacture that key blank and sell to whomever they please, thus leaving the consumer wide open for unauthorized key duplication. If the keys are patent protected - duplication is strictly controlled.
